Dairy Sustainability Ireland

Dairy Industry Ireland is leading the way in providing a forum for our industry to address highly difficult and complex environmental legislation at factory level. The group meets regularly bringing in the best of national and international expertise and strives to bring our industry on a journey to achieve pharmaceutical standards as we produce cutting edge food and nutrition products for global markets. Having led work with Bord Bia delivering roll out of the Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme (SDAS), Dairy Industry Ireland have initiated the National Dairy Sustainability Initiative.

Operating under the Dairy Industry Ireland umbrella, ‘Dairy Sustainability Ireland’ is a collaborative project with Bord Bia, the Department of Agriculture and a number of Ireland’s dairy processors. This initiative has been established to help farmers meet environmental targets, improve profitability and to copper fasten Ireland’s reputation as a world leader in grass-fed dairy production.

This represents the globe’s first ‘whole of sector/whole of government’ approach to addressing the challenges of our industry. Fundamental to that work is the principal that environmental protection and economic competitiveness are equal and complementary: one will not be achieved at the expense of the other.
