Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association
Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association
The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA) represents all farmers, particularly dairy and livestock farmers, by lobbying at local, national and EU levels. It places special emphasis on preserving the family farm structure and defending the rights and incomes of farm families.
ICMSA represents farmer interests on many committees and bodies; some of the main ones listed are as follows: Teagasc, Ornua, Bord Bia, National Dairy Council, Employment Appeals Tribunal, and the Monitoring Committees on Rural Development.
Aims, Objectives and Policy Priorities:
- To lobby on behalf of all dairy farmers and livestock farmers at EU, local and national level.
- To organise farmers and agricultural producers of Ireland on an entirely non-political and non-sectarian basis.
- To promote the interests of all engaged in agriculture.
- To advise on the protection and regulation of the agricultural industry in Ireland.
ICMSA believe environmental issues are critically important within the context of national legislation to accommodate the changes that will be required for Ireland to meet its obligations regarding internationally binding commitments. The crucial concept should be that climate mitigation policies and actions should not undermine sustainable food production.
ICMSA believe that balancing the environmental objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions with the economic and social objective of promoting the sustainable development of the rural economy is critical and the climate efficiency of Irish agriculture must be recognised. Sustainability is a key approach that should be the real focus form an environmental point of view.
